Your scalp and hair have an efficient mechanism to protect itself which works best at a low PH level, ensuring the hair cuticles are well-sealed so that your hair is stronger and shinier.

Ideally the PH level of hair products should be less than 5.5. Optimal shampoo results are experience when the product pH ranged between 3.5 and 4.9.

Hair becomes temporarily alkaline when it’s exposed to products that aren’t PH balanced. These shampoos will increase the negative electrical charge of the hair and cause friction between the fibres which can lead to cuticle damage (dry frizz which is hard to comb). Hair with an alkaline PH will absorb water right down to the cuticles, hydrating the fibres and breaking down the keratin molecules. This causes hair to loose its shape, curl, and cause breakage.

With a low PH level shampoos are gentle, non-stripping, and moisture-rich. A low ph shampoo will also preserve your hair and scalp’s natural oils and protect your hair against frizz causing damage.

A Low PH Shampoo also known as an Acid PH Shampoo will:

  • Seep deep into the pores to remove impurities
  • Close and seal the hair cuticles
  • Keep your hair glossy
  • Rebalance damaged hair
  • Boost hydration
  • Prolong your hair treatments
  • Give your hair more slip to detangle
  • Give your natural curls more definition

The best part of low PH shampoo’s is that they do not contain harsh surfactants such as sulfates, parabens, sodium chloride and silicone.

If you are not using a gentle pH-balanced shampoo in your haircare routine, you are more than likely doing unintentional damage to your hair and scalp.
